Voice group: Soprano
A native of Augsburg, Sonja Philippin began playing the recorder at the age of five. Three years later she then turned to the flute and soon began winning a number of prizes from Jugend Musiziert playing that instrument.
In secondary school she selected a major in music, once again with the flute as her main instrument. Not until reaching the age of 20 did she begin taking voice lessons as well. One year later she started studying music at the Augsburger Konservatorium. Daphne Evangelatos, a household name to Munich operagoers supervised her vocal training. In July of 2000 she concluded her studies passing final examinations in both her majors, voice and flute. Needless to say, Sonja Philippin now enjoys a career as a much sought-after concert soloist covering virtually every musical style, but her greatest love is modern music. In this repertoire, she presented herself, for example, in September of 2000 at Les Musicades in Lyon in Schönberg’s “Pierrot lunaire”.
Since 2000, Sonja Philippin has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Chorus.
