Michael Mantaj

Voice group: Bass

While still in school, Michael Mantaj enjoyed an intensive musical training program as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen. There he also took his first voice lessons from Richard Brünner. There followed vocal studies with Nikolaus Hillebrand and Josef Metternich in Munich.

Besides his concert activity as a recital and oratorio singer, the bass could also be seen time and again in a variety of productions on the opera stage. He portrayed such roles as Moralès in Bizet’s “Carmen”, Guglielmo in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”, Guldensack in Egk’s “Die Zaubergeige” as well as Dr. Falke in Johann Strauss’s “Die Fledermaus”.

Right from the outset, Michael Mantaj has always devoted a special fondness to ensemble singing. Since 2000 he has been a member of the internationally renowned vocal ensemble, Die Singphoniker. The six-member group has meanwhile put over 30 CDs on the market and is regularly invited to appear at prominent festivals world-wide.

Michael Mantaj has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Chorus since 2008.
