Mezzo-soprano Merit Ostermann grew up in Munich. After completing her musical studies at the Theaterakademie August Everding, she went on to study classical singing with Sylvia Greenberg at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater. She concluded her vocal studies in a master class supported by a grant from the Deutscher Bühnenverein.
Before Merit Ostermann began concentrating exclusively on classical singing, she made appearances as a jazz singer, a performer in musicals and a straight actress in a variety of different theatres.
As a lyric mezzo-soprano she has sung, inter alia, at Munich’s Gärtnerplatztheater, the Salzburger Landestheater, the Staatstheater in Kassel and at the Orff-Festspielen in Andechs. Naxos has released recordings of Jutta Neumann taking part in Johann Simon Mayr’s Oratorio “David in spelunca Engaddi” under the baton of Franz Hauk. From 2009 to 2014, she was in the ensemble at the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, performing such principal roles as Rosina, Dorabella, Octavian, Komponist, Carmen and many others. Recital singing also means a great deal to Merit Ostermann.
Since 2015, Merit Ostermann has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Chorus.
