Atsuko Suzuki

Atsuko Suzuki was born in Osaka, Japan. She received her training at the Municipal University of the Arts in Kyoto and also studied with Arleen Augér at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt am Main.

She passed her graduation examinations with honors. Atsuko Suzuki won the second prize at the International Singing Competition in ’s-Hertogenbosch and in Rio de Janeiro (1987), and she received the Gold Medal at the International Music Festival for Young Soloists in Bordeaux (1988).

Atsuko Suzuki has made guest appearances as a soloist in Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, France, Brazil, Japan and Germany, among other venues at the music festival in Akk, Israel, at the “Philharmonia ’88” in Tel Aviv, at the music festival in Vienne, France as well as at St. Victor in Marseille. In 1999 she gave a song recital in Osaka in memory of Arleen Augér. In 2001 she sang the second soprano solo in a performance of Cherubini’s ʺMesse solennelle No. 2ʺ under the direction of Riccardo Muti (CD recording) and in 2007 she sang the soprano solo in a performance of André
Caplet’s “Tout est lumière” under the direction of Mariss Jansons. A sizeable number of radio and television recordings documents her comprehensive repertoire, which draws from virtually every musical era.

Atsuko Suzuki has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Chorus since 1988.
