Mariss Jansons extends contract
MARISS JANSONS EXTENDS HIS CONTRACT WITH BAYERISCHER RUNDFUNK
Maestro Jansons has extended his contract with the Bavarian Radio and will remain Chief Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus through the 2023/2024 season. As the successor of Eugen Jochum, Rafael Kubelik, Sir Colin Davis and Lorin Maazel, Jansons has been chief conductor of the two internationally renowned ensembles of the Bavarian Radio since 2003.
“When the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra approached me to ask for a further extension of my contract, it was of course a great pleasure for me! It is also a validation both of our close musical cooperation and the extraordinarily successful and gratifying interpersonal atmosphere and mutual trust we have developed over all these years. I too wish to continue this relationship, both with the musicians of the orchestra and with the singers of our wonderful Bavarian Radio Chorus, and I look forward with pleasure to an exciting future with many musical highlights”.
BR General Director Ulrich Wilhelm
“Mariss Jansons has further enhanced the excellent artistic reputation of the BR Symphony Orchestra and consolidated his position as an esteemed guest of the most renowned orchestras. His charisma, his claim to perfection and his passion are transferred in equal measure to musicians, concert audiences and music lovers in Bavaria and far beyond. I am happy that the unique success story of Mariss Jansons and the orchestra will continue. A commitment to the outstanding acoustics of Munich’s forthcoming Konzerthaus is one of Maestro Jansons’ main priorities. I am therefore particularly pleased that the extension of the contract as chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus comes at a time when the project is taking concrete shape”.
Choir Representatives, Bavarian Radio Chorus
“The chorus of the Bayerischer Rundfunk is very happy to be able to continue to share musical experiences at the highest artistic level with its chief conductor Mariss Jansons for another three years. Maestro Jansons’ comprehensive musicality, with which he turns joint concerts into extraordinary journeys, not only enriches us, but offers beacons of the musical city of Munich in all its humanistic wholeness! In this sense, we look forward to exciting new projects with the chorus and symphony orchestra of the BR, to whom our Maestro remains faithful”.
