Joseph Haydn’s The Creation is among the towering late achievements of this master of the symphony and string quartet. Novel in its day, it is a blend of Biblical passages and excerpts from Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. It breathes an Enlightenment spirit: God is the Creator of the world, human beings live in self-determination and the first sin has yet to be committed.
In addition to the BR Choir and soloists Anna Lucia Richter, Maximilian Schmitt and Florian Boesch, the performance features the renowned period ensemble Il Giardino Armonico headed by Giovanni Antonini. They have a special rapport with Haydn, being currently engaged in a complete recording of his symphonies in a long-term project.
