Cancellation of the concerts in January
Cancellation of the concerts in January

On January 5, 2021, the Federal Chancellor and the heads of government of the federal states decided to extend the prohibition of events until January 31, 2021, among other measures to contain the corona pandemic. On this basis, the Bayerischer Rundfunk is forced to cancel the concerts of its orchestras, chorus and musica viva. Tickets already purchased will be refunded.

Mozart's Requiem with introduction
Mozart's Requiem with introduction

Mozart’s unfinished last composition, the Requiem in D minor from 1791, is one of the most famous compositions of the Latin Mass for the Dead. The version on this CD, submitted by Howard Arman for the Bavarian Radio Chorus, is based on Mozart’s sources and the additions by Franz Xaver Süßmayr. CD 2 of this release offers an introduction to the work by Markus Vanhoefer (in German).

Exceptional and new on CD
Exceptional and new on CD

An unusual live recording of a celebrated concert: Ivan Repušić conducts the Bavarian Radio Chorus and the Munich Radio Orchestra in a new CD edition with Igor Kuljerić’s Croatian Glagolitic Requiem. He combines the structure of the Roman Catholic Liturgy with the ancient ecclesiastical tradition of the Eastern Mediterranean, as handed down in the so-called Glagolitza, the oldest Slavic script.

Bavarian Radio Chorus

The Bavarian Radio Chorus was founded in 1946. Thanks to its remarkable stylistic versatility, this ensemble enjoys the highest regard world-wide.

Since 2003, Mariss Jansons has served as the Chief Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Chorus and Symphony Orchestra, supplemented by Howard Arman, who was appointed Artistic Director of the chorus in 2016.

Guest appearances have taken the chorus to Japan as well as to such top European festivals as the ones in Lucerne and Salzburg. Major European orchestras like the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam and the Sächsische Staatskapelle in Dresden hold their collaborations with the BR-Chor in high regard. The chorus has performed in the past under the direction of such distinguished conductors as Andris Nelsons, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding and Riccardo Muti.
